Simple Spreads for Daily Guidance

You've been pulling one card a day. Now let's expand into simple spreads — layouts that give you a fuller picture by combining multiple cards.
Here are three spreads perfect for beginners:
THE PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE SPREAD (3 cards):
This is the most classic beginner spread and it's beautiful in its simplicity.
• Card 1 (Past): What has led you to this moment? What energy or event is still influencing you?
• Card 2 (Present): Where are you right now? What is the current energy?
• Card 3 (Future): Where are you heading? What energy is coming in?
Remember: the 'future' card is not a prediction. It's an indication of where your current trajectory is leading. You always have the power to change course.
THE MIND-BODY-SPIRIT SPREAD (3 cards):
This spread checks in on your three layers of being.
• Card 1 (Mind): What is your mental state? What thoughts need attention?
• Card 2 (Body): What does your physical self need? Health, energy, rest?
• Card 3 (Spirit): What is your soul asking for? What spiritual practice is calling?
This spread is excellent for Sunday check-ins or whenever you feel out of balance.
THE GUIDANCE SPREAD (5 cards):
For when you need deeper clarity on a situation.
• Card 1 (Situation): What is really going on?
• Card 2 (Challenge): What is the obstacle or tension?
• Card 3 (Strength): What resource do you have to meet this?
• Card 4 (Advice): What action or shift is recommended?
• Card 5 (Outcome): Where does this path lead?
TIPS FOR READING MULTIPLE CARDS:
1. READ THE STORY. Don't interpret each card in isolation — look at how they flow together. Card 1 leads to Card 2 leads to Card 3. What story are they telling?
2. NOTICE PATTERNS. Are there multiple cards from the same suit? That means that suit's element is dominant. Two Cups cards? Emotions are front and center. Two Swords? There's mental tension or a decision to make.
3. MAJOR VS MINOR. If most cards are Minor Arcana, the situation is about everyday life. If Major Arcana cards appear, something deeper is at play.
4. TRUST THE FIRST CARD. The first card in a spread often sets the tone for the entire reading. Give it extra weight.
5. IT'S OK TO NOT KNOW. If a card doesn't make sense, sit with it. Write it down. The meaning often reveals itself later in the day or week. Tarot is patient.
Practice Exercise
Try all three spreads this week. Do the Past-Present-Future spread today. Do the Mind-Body-Spirit spread in two days. Do the Guidance spread at the end of the week. Journal each one.
Reflection Question
Which spread felt most natural to you? Which one gave you the clearest insight? There's no right answer — your preferred spread tells you about your reading style.
